Budgeting For Your Trip | Four Ways To Save While Traveling
(Excitedly writes down a brain dump of trip ideas!)
We get it. Planning a trip can be an exciting experience, but it can also be daunting to remember that every trip comes with a budget—unless you don't have one, in which case kudos to you!
Whether you're going two states over or taking the entire family to Italy or Disney World, budgeting is the easiest way to know how to get the most bang for your buck when you are traveling. Plus, we will touch on some commonly missed items when it comes to travel budgeting. Highland Events and our team want everyone to ENJOY their travels, not stress over every nickel and dime.
Psst, before you move on, did you know that hiring a travel planner can SAVE you money vs. DIYing your travels and budgeting? Let’s chat!
1. Remember To Set a Realistic Budget
We all would love to continue swiping our cards or handing out money on every trip, but we have bills to pay and mouths to feed. So, when considering your travel budget, know how much you are willing to spend for everything from transportation to and from your location, dining, souvenirs, and outings. You will want to research the general cost of living in the area if you are traveling internationally because some places cost way more for meals and excursions than others. Think of this as finding a place for every dollar to go to so you feel fulfilled in your trip without worry. PS. leave a little wiggle room for some fun!
3. Have a Plan To Keep Track of Expenses
It's great to pre-plan expenses but that can easily go off the rails very quickly once you arrive. That wiggle room comes into play here but while traveling, continue to keep tabs on how much you are spending. If you go over one day, no problem! Just remember to reign it in for a meal or two or maybe hold off on a souvenir or buy a cheaper item. We want you to have fun and also take care of your budget! If you have any issues with how to do this, please ask us at Highland Events!
4. Prioritize Your Expenses
What is it that you want to do the most on your trip? We all have that ONE THING so make sure your money goes towards that. If it's a gondola ride in Italy or getting a spa treatment in Japan, or if it's going to the Rock n Roll Museum in Ohio as a family of four -- prioritize this first. After, you can gauge if you want to have one fancier meal and prep some meals at your hotel or Airbnb to save money.
5. Look for Deals and Discounts
One thing about working with a travel planning company like Highland Events is that we have these deals and discounts available to us, which saves you time! If you are looking for ways to save, check out websites as well as your credit card companies for any deals or discounts they may have for fun, travel discounts like car rentals, or things like insurance that may come with your reservations. Any money saved is more money towards the things you want to enjoy while traveling!
By following these tips, you can plan to budget for your next trip and enjoy your travels without worrying about your bank account. Whether you are flying to Ibiza or taking the car and your family on a road trip through Utah, there is a budget and way to make the absolute most out of your trip.
